I have a lovely 1991 Guild X-500 that has a chunk of binding (1/4" long) missing from the right (high E) side of the neck. I have contacted Stew Mac and Guild/Fender trying to find a strip of replacement binding, but have been unable to. Neither Stew Mac nor Fender were much help. The binding is WBWBW about 1/4" high by about 1/8"to 3/16" wide with the two black lines about the width of a very sharp pencil line. Does anyone know where I can locate a strip of matching binding or does anyone know of someone who can fabricate a replacement strip of laminated binding for me? I am not a luthier, just a guy with a rather formidable puzzle to solve, since Guild doesn't use this particular binding arrangement anymore. Please email me at nspecta@msn.com. Many thanks for any help you might be able to give me. nspecta38841.7375115741

PS. I don't live in Afghanistan. Don't know how that came up. I live in Santa Maria, CA, which is pretty far from the Mid-East, but not too far from the Midwest, sorta.

I would bet that one of the members lives within driving distance, and can help you.

And I was hoping we had our first Afghan member!
If you can get a very accurate measurement of those purfling lines, we might be able to get you headed in the right direction. A picture with a ruler or scale on there would be a big help for us to be able to advise you.
